Metzora – Shabbat Ha’Gadol

While the Torah portion of the week is ‘Metzora’, Leviticus 141:1 focuses on the skin condition of leprosy. In Biblical times the Kohen/priest served also as a physician and rendering the patient to be in isolation for seven days. Most Torah commentators pointed out that one of the causes of this skin condition is due to ‘Lashon Ha’ra – gossip and evil speech.

This Shabbat preceding Passover became known as ‘Shabbat Ha’Gadol/The great and awesome Shabbat’. It is derived the Haftarah/Prophetic portion of this Shabbat from the Prophet Malachi 3:4. Some of the most beautiful verses in the Bible are is recorded in this Haftarah: “Then they that fear the Lord spoke one with another and the Lord hearkened and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before Him, for them that feared the Lord and that thought upon His name”

The last verse of the Haftarah the Prophet proclaim: “the hearts of fathers joined with their sons, and the hearts of sons reunited with their fathers”.

After last Saturday night drones and rockets attack on Israel by Iran, demonstrates the Israel and the Jewish people are one. They talk with one another and together and with help of God secure the Jewish future.
